Political Action Increases Equity
伟德注册网站 activists know that representation matters in politics and every vote counts. This is why members in B.C. hit the streets in April to support the BC NDP and transgender candidate Morgane Oger.
Members Show their Pride
This year, 伟德注册网站 members have participated in over 22 local pride events from coast to coast to coast! 伟德注册网站 was represented in 10 more communities than in 2016 including the first parade in Thunder Bay!
Transgender Day of Remembrance
伟德注册网站 unites with a global movement in acknowledging November 20 as the Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). This is a day to come together to recognise those whose lives have been taken due to due to anti-trans violence.
All members should work to be active allies to stop the violence against transgender people and to build caring communities and a more inclusive union. Taking action to end this violence is our shared responsibility.
伟德注册网站 encourages members to participate in the following three ways:
- Attend a vigil on November 20 and say their names. Many TDOR vigils include the reading of the names of people lost to anti-trans violence. This is an important memorial to victims around the world.
- Include a moment of silence for murdered trans people at your next union event or meeting. Take time to pause and recognise those that have been taken by this violence, and commit to continue to work against it as a union.
- Support trans people in your union and community. Print and share the “6 ways you can be an ally” poster. Read and follow the steps to end hate and stop transphobia.
